Back on top: Bright, Rohrabacher strike gold in Houston
ATASCOCITA, TX - Anna Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher are women’s doubles champions for the third time in 2024.
The No. 1 seeds ran the table at the Veolia Houston Open, not dropping a single game on their way to Championship Sunday.
That continued into the gold medal match, where they dispatched No. 4 seeds Vivienne David and Jackie Kawamoto, 11-8, 11-4, 11-9.
It looked like the match may go to a fourth game when David and Kawamoto gained a 9-7 advantage, but Bright and Rohrabacher reeled off four consecutive points to end it in three.
Bright was happy to bounce back in Houston after being knocked out in the Round of 16 at last week’s Fanatics Sportsbook North Carolina Cup presented by CIBC.
“We had a bit of a down week in North Carolina last week, so it’s really great to get this one,” she said. “We’re stoked to come away with it in three, especially against such a great, world-class team.”
The two former NCAA Division I tennis players continue to show why they make up one of the top women’s doubles teams in pickleball.
