Bouncers down Aces in MLP D.C. opener
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Not one of the Atlanta Bouncers’ four matches at MLP Atlanta finished in regulation, with each one going to a DreamBreaker.
That trend didn’t continue in the nation’s capital, though, where the team featuring Jaume Martinez Vich, Genie Erokhina, Todd Fought, and Angie Walker picked up an event-opening victory over the Brooklyn Aces.
The match didn’t start off the way the Bouncers would have liked, with the Aces taking the women’s doubles point behind a victory from Lina Padegimaite and Layne Sleeth.
But Martinez Vich and Fought brought the momentum right back to Atlanta’s corner with a dominant 25-10 victory over Martin Emmrich and Daniel de la Rosa in men’s doubles.
That momentum stayed on their side the rest of the way, as Atlanta took both mixed doubles matches to clinch the 3-1 victory.
This is Atlanta’s first regulation victory of the season, and it was Martinez Vich and Walker who closed out the final mixed doubles match.
“We didn’t start off very well in Atlanta,” Martinez Vich said of his partnership with Walker. “We had never played together before, and we had to figure out the patterns that work for us. We’ve been working on it, and it shows right now. You’re gonna see a lot more of that.”
The Bouncers will next face the Florida Smash on Friday, while the Aces will take on the Las Vegas Night Owls later Thursday afternoon.
