Bright enjoys successful return to singles play at Mesa Arizona Cup
MESA, AZ – Anna Bright made a triumphant return to the singles court on Wednesday with a dominant 11-1, 11-0 victory over No. 44 seed Domenika Turkovic at the Arizona Athletic Grounds.
Seeded 21st, Bright showcased the trademark power typically seen from her in mixed doubles alongside partner James Ignatowich to hand Turkovic a straight-games defeat.
“It’s tiring retuning to singles,” shared Bright. “I feel like the new JOOLA paddle really helped me. I was getting a lot of easy power with it. I’ve been working on my drives and serves a lot for doubles, so that helped me out there, too.”
Admittedly, Bright isn't feeling the pressure in singles play.
Delivering strong performances in mixed doubles is the top priority
“With the progression format, I didn’t want to go out there feeling cold on Thursday with that really tough mixed match ahead. I wanted to get out there in singles and compete a little bit,” she explained.
Up next for Bright in singles is a matchup with Maddie Schulte.
