Bright, Rohrabacher impress in semis, earn finals berth
PALM SPRINGS, CA - Anna Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher have looked impressive playing together in Palm Springs, but the Major League Pickleball teammates took it up a notch in their women’s doubles semifinal Saturday night.
In a truly dominant display, they took down No. 2 seeds Callie Smith and Lucy Kovalova 11-2, 11-0 in a match that lasted 25 minutes.
The pair’s attacking style helped them overpower their opponents and make it to Championship Sunday in their first tournament together.
Not abandoning their game plan even in tight moments has been an important element of the tandem’s success so far.
“We’re coming out and playing our game and making adjustments where we need,” Rohrabacher explained. “But the most important thing is that we’re sticking to our game plan, which is working really well.”
Awaiting Bright and Rohrabacher in the finals is the undefeated duo of Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau, who battled past Meghan Dizon and Etta Wright in the semis, 11-9, 11-7.
Despite the challenge of facing an undefeated opponent, Bright and Rohrabacher are confident in what they can do regardless of who is on the other side of the net.
“We’re just gonna go out there and play loose and do our thing,” Bright said. “And I think the best thing with Rachel and I is that we’re not scared at all.”
