Campbell strikes again, defeats Frazier in singles at PPA Mesa
MESA, AZ – Seventeen-year-old Cason Campbell's magical run in men's singles continued on Thursday with a triumph over No. 8 seed Dylan Frazier in the Round of 16.
In a contest that went the distance, Campbell came away with an 11-4, 3-11, 11-6 victory.
This was, of course, a notable win for the youngster, who entered the competition as the No. 43 seed in the bracket, but he's setting his sights on even bigger things to come in the quarterfinals.
“I feel great. I’m really excited to play Jack Sock tomorrow,” said Campbell with a huge smile, proudly sporting his lucky hat. “I’ve been watching Jack play tennis for years.”
For his part, Sock upset Tyson McGuffin on Thursday to make a statement of his own.
To prepare for the matchup against Sock, Campbell will be hitting the practice courts. He wouldn't disclose precisely what he plans to work on, but handling Sock's powerful forehands will undoutedbly be a key to success.
“I have nothing to lose, so I’m just going to go out there, have some fun, and play my game,” he concluded.
