D.C. Pickleball Team snags first DreamBreaker victory over Carolina
WASHINGTON D.C. - Going into its final bout against the Carolina Pickleball Club, the D.C. Pickleball Team had struggled in DreamBreakers at its hometown event.
The squad featuring James Ignatowich, Rachel Rohrabacher, Dekel Bar, and Allyce Jones had lost both of its deciding contests throughout the weekend, falling to the Texas Ranchers and New York Hustlers.
After gaining a 2-1 advantage behind Jones and Bar’s mixed doubles victory over Andrea Koop and Collin Johns, D.C. had a chance to win in regulation with a match point on the side of Rohrabacher and Ignatowich against Jessie Irvine and Ben Johns.
A regulation victory was not meant to be, however, as Irvine and Johns eventually emerged with a 29-27 victory to extend play on Championship Court.
Carolina had DreamBreaker momentum after the team’s win against Texas to close out Saturday’s action, but D.C. quickly put that to rest.
Bar set the tone early, going 3-1 against Ben Johns to give the team an advantage it wouldn’t ever lose.
Each one of D.C.’s members found an extra gear as the stakes rose, and Jones eventually closed out the dominant performance with a 4-0 rotation against Irvine to clinch the 21-11 triumph.
With the win, D.C. finishes its weekend with a 2-3 record. Carolina currently sits at 1-3 and will next face the St. Louis Shock to wrap up action in the nation’s capital.
