David, Kawamoto soar into women’s doubles final
ATASCOCITA, TX - For the second week in a row, Vivienne David will compete for women’s doubles gold.
In North Carolina, she did so with Lacy Schneemann, and she’s doing it with Jackie Kawamoto in Houston.
The No. 4 seeds beat Callie Smith and Lucy Kovalova 12-10, 11-4 in a convincing display that featured patience in long dink rallies and well-timed attacks.
“Jackie controls the kitchen line so well,” David said of her partner’s performance. “She dictated the points, and we picked our targets well. Obviously, you want to stay aggressive-minded and pull when it’s there, but we tried to construct the points a little longer, and it worked out.”
They’ll take on top seeds Anna Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher on Championship Sunday.
