David, Wilson strike gold in mixed
LAKEVILLE, MN - Thomas Wilson had already secured one title on Sunday going into the mixed doubles final, but he was able to get his second alongside Vivienne David.
The No. 1 seeds took down No. 12 seeds Rachel Rohrabacher and Federico Staksrud 12-10, 11-6, 11-2 in Humana Championship Court’s third match of the day.
The pair continued their aggressive style of play that worked for them on Friday, relying on the drives and athleticism of both players.
When reflecting on his successful Championship Sunday, Wilson gave all the credit to the Minnesota crowd.
“Easily the best part is the fans,” he said. “This is my third year here, and people are just so supportive of everyone here. The energy is amazing.”
David and Wilson have been consistent medalists in mixed for the better part of the past year, but this is their first gold medal as a tandem.
More may be on the way in the future.
