Dizon, Daescu overcome slow start against Pisnik, C. Johns to make quarters
OVERLAND PARK, KS - Meghan Dizon and Andrei Daescu are into the mixed doubles quarterfinals after a 1-11, 11-5, 11-8 victory over No. 7 seeds Tina Pisnik and Collin Johns.
The No. 12 seeds got off to a slow start and dropped Game 1 in under ten minutes, but it didn’t take long for them to settle into the pace of the match from there.
The tandem thrived after the first game, as Daescu’s length on the left side and Dizon’s craftiness on the right proved to be a winning combination.
This win marks that second time on Friday that Dizon and Daescu have had to come back after dropping the first game. They had to do the same in their opening match against Emma Nelson and Matthew Barlow.
They certainly won’t complain about the ending results.
The pair will next take on No. 2 seeds Jorja and JW Johnson with a spot in the semifinals on the line.
