Eveloff, Hovenier pull off unprecedented Game 3 comeback
PHOENIX, AZ - You’re gonna lose most games where you trail 1-10, so it’s probably not a good sign if you’re on the wrong end of that score line in a game to decide the match.
But that’s the predicament Ryan Eveloff and Blaine Hovenier found themselves in Tuesday night in their men’s doubles match against Mota Alhouni and Joel Cassens.
The No. 29 seeds dropped the first game but stormed back to take the second 11-4.
The momentum wouldn’t stay on their side for long, though, as they fell behind 1-10 in the deciding game.
And in that stage of the match, your options are a bit limited.
“There’s not much you can do at 1-10 other than try to have some fun and see what happens, and fortunately it worked out for us,” Eveloff shared.
‘Having fun’ for the pair looked like slowly cutting into the deficit. By the time they knotted things up at 10, they had already saved six match points.
And they wouldn’t have to save any more from there, as they went on to win Game 3 12-10 to somehow escape with a victory and live to fight another day in Phoenix.
Up next for Eveloff and Hovenier is a clash against No. 23 seeds Greg Dow and Anderson Scarpa.
