Ignatowich, Wright power past Staksrud, Ge in two games
James Ignatowich and Matt Wright haven’t played a tournament together since April, but that hasn’t been an issue in Salt Lake City.
They’re into the men’s doubles final after an 11-4, 11-8 victory over No. 6 seeds Federico Staksrud and Augie Ge.
It was an impressive display from the No. 3 seeds, as Ignatowich’s fast-paced style meshed well with Wright’s crafty attacks on the right side.
“I think James and I had some unfinished business from earlier this year,” Wright said of Saturday’s performance. “We were determined today. I thought we played very well—aggressive but also disciplined—and I couldn’t be happier right now.”
Sunday will be Ignatowich and Wright’s first opportunity to capture a title together.
To take home gold, they will have to beat the winner of the second semifinal featuring Gabriel Tardio and Andrei Daescu taking on Hayden Patriquin and Pablo Tellez.
