Johnson, Frazier into men’s doubles final
MESA AZ - For the first time in 2024, JW Johnson and Dylan Frazier will compete together on Championship Sunday.
The No. 2 seeds took down No. 3 seeds James Ignatowich and Matt Wright 11-1, 11-7 in a fast-paced match that featured hands battle after hands battle.
Johnson and Frazier knew that’s what it would be like coming into the match, and they were ready.
“We were confident we could win those exchanges, and we weren’t going to shy away from it,” Frazier said.
Ignatowich was also clearly struggling with a shoulder injury he sustained in his mixed doubles match earlier in the day, and he tried to stretch it out after most points.
Johnson and Frazier will take on No. 16 seeds Gabriel Tardio and Andrei Daescu in the final.
It’ll be a familiar matchup for Johnson and Tardio, since the two play together often in South Florida.
Johnson expects some especially entertaining exchanges between himself and Tardio in that match.
“We’re definitely gonna expect lots of hands battles,” he said. “[Gabe’s] gonna speed up a lot against me, probably at the face.”
We’ll see if that prediction comes true on Sunday.
