Koop, Kawamoto edge Black, David in women’s doubles

PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA – Ninth-seeded Andrea Koop and Jade Kawamoto downed fifth-seeded Hurricane Tyra Black and Vivienne David 3-11, 11-3, 11-9 on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals at the Vizzy Atlanta Open.

“We’ve played a lot together, and honestly we haven’t had the best results this year, but I feel like we’re getting better every match and it definitely showed today,” said Koop.

“We trust each other and we just have fun with each other, so no matter what it’s always a good time,” added Kawamoto. 

Kawamoto and Koop had the elements in their favor as well when it came to which side of the court they ended on. The sun was shining bright and it was tough to see the ball on one side of the court, which affected Black and David. 

“We definitely played more aggressive when we had our chance, and we’re so excited to play the quarterfinals,” said Koop.
