Sock cruises over Devilliers, books semifinal spot
PALM SPRINGS, CA - It became apparent Thursday when he beat Connor Garnett that Jack Sock is a legitimate threat in singles.
That being said, though, it’s not easy to follow up a performance like that the very next day.
But, that’s exactly what Sock did Friday at Mission Hills Country Club in Palm Springs, CA, taking down No. 7 seed Jay Devilliers 11-6, 11-6.
One thing that helped for four-time Grand Slam tennis champion secure his third quality singles win in as many days was keeping things simple and not getting bogged down in the strategy behind every point.
“I’m just having fun out there and trying to use my athleticism, speed, and forehand,” he shared.
The win sets up a semi-final matchup between Sock and No. 2 seed Federico Staksrud, who defeated Christian Alshon 11-9, 11-8 on Friday morning.
No. 17 seed Quang Duong will take on No. 10 seed Dylan Frazier in the other men’s singles semi-final on Saturday.
Duong bested Pablo Tellez to advance to the semis, while Frazier took down No. 3 seed Tyson McGuffin in two games.
