Staksrud avenges Masters loss, eases past Frazier for men’s singles title
The last time Federico Staksrud and Dylan Frazier faced off with a title on the line, the Argentinian had the gold within grasp.
He had a 9-3 lead in the third game before Frazier went on a furious run to steal the victory and earn his first PPA singles title.
That was back in January at the PPA Masters.
Their bout for gold in Las Vegas, however, wasn’t nearly as close. Staksrud put forth a dominant performance to come away with the title by an 11-3, 11-1 score line.
The top seed was at his brilliant best, finding ways to attack with his forehand at nearly every time of asking and showing his proficiency in cat-and-mouse rallies.
This is Staksrud’s seventh singles title of the year, to go along with eight silver medals and one bronze.
He says that focusing on the little things has helped him have what has been a stellar year so far.
“I started the year just trying to do the right things and control everything that was in my hands,” he mentioned. “The stuff like practicing, going to the gym, eating well, and recovering. These results are a combination of all those things.”
In the bronze medal match, Jaume Martinez Vich earned an 11-0, 11-3 victory over Eric Roddy to claim his third singles title of 2024.
