Staksrud continues strong form, sets finals clash with Johns
MESA, AZ - That’s three tournaments, three singles finals for Federico Staksrud to start 2024.
Saturday morning at the Mesa Arizona Cup also gave the Argentine his second win over Jack Sock.
It wasn’t the 11-1, 11-3 beatdown that we saw at the PPA Masters, but Staksrud was still able to get it done in two games, 12-10, 11-4.
He did so by slowing the points down and forcing Sock to play cat and mouse. That’s where Staksrud gained the upper hand.
This result continues the No. 2 seed’s impressive start to the year that has seen him make it to Championship Sunday in every tournament he’s played.
Staksrud credits his stellar start to the year to his offseason preparation.
“I didn’t go to Mexico or the beach or anything in December. I was home working out and eating well and trying to practice every day,” he shared. “Those things add up when it comes to the season.”
He’ll have a chance to capture his second gold medal of the year when he faces Ben Johns on Championship Sunday.
