Staksrud surpasses Sock, sets final with Frazier
PALM SPRINGS, CA - There’s been a lot of talk about Jack Sock’s singles game this week as he’s racked up quality wins at the PPA’s first event of 2024, but Federico Staksrud showed why he’s one of the top singles players in the world on Saturday.
The No. 2 seed made quick work of Sock in the second men’s singles semifinal, cruising to an 11-1, 11-3 victory.
The drives were working for the Argentine, which made it difficult for Sock to be aggressive off the return.
“Everything worked well for me there” Staksrud said. “I set up the shots I wanted, and it was all good.”
This is the second year in a row that Staksrud has made it to Championship Sunday in singles at the Masters.
The 12-time singles medalist credits his success at the year’s opening event with the mental clarity that comes from the break between seasons.
“Every time I take a break for a few weeks, I come back better,” he shared. “It gives me an opportunity to listen to my body and my mental side.”
Staksrud will face No. 10 seed Dylan Frazier for the men’s singles title on Championship Sunday.
