Stratman, Patriquin take back-and-forth Game 3 to make quarters
LOS ANGELES, CA - Both Lauren Stratman and Hayden Patriquin made headlines on Thursday with their singles play, with Stratman making her first PPA singles final and Patriquin knocking Ben Johns out of the draw.
The two—now teaming up in mixed doubles—are continuing to make waves on Friday.
The No. 7 seeds are into the quarterfinals after a back-and-forth battle against No. 12 seeds Etta Wright and Connor Garnett.
Let me explain what I mean by ‘back-and-forth.’
After splitting the first two games with scores 12-10 each way, Stratman and Patriquin jumped out a 5-1 lead in Game 3.
Wright and Garnett then went on a run themselves, securing the match’s next eight points to gain a 9-5 advantage.
That’s where the scoring would end for the No. 12 seeds, however. Stratman and Patriquin won the match’s final six points to book their spot in the quarterfinals behind a thrilling 10-12, 12-10, 11-9 victory.
They’ll take on No. 3 seeds Meghan Dizon and Tyson McGuffin next.
