Waters overpowers Todd to claim women’s singles title
Anna Leigh Waters captured her 41st career PPA singles title to kick off Sunday’s action at Life Time Peachtree Corners with an 11-1, 11-6 victory over No. 7 seed Parris Todd.
Todd came into the match with plenty of momentum after dispatching Kate Fahey, Mary Brascia, and Lea Jansen in consecutive matches to make the final, but the top seed stopped that run in its tracks.

This is actually the second time this year that Waters and Todd have played for gold in the Georgia capital; they faced off in the final of the Atlanta Open back in May, with Waters emerging victorious in three games.
In that match, Waters had a 10-7 lead in Game 2, but Todd rallied to steal that game and force a decider, where she eventually lost.
The top seed wanted to make sure she didn’t have a similar slip up this time round.
“[Parris] is an opponent you can never count out,” Waters said. “She fights for everything, and she was down to Kate and came back, so I knew I couldn’t let up even when I had the lead.”
Waters will play two more matches on Sunday as she pursues her 29th career Triple Crown on the PPA Tour: women’s doubles with Catherine Parenteau and mixed doubles with Ben Johns.
In the bronze medal match, Lea Jansen defeated Brooke Buckner by an 11-7, 9-11, 11-5 score line.
