Waters, Parenteau dominate Black, Todd for women’s doubles crown
Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau captured their 22nd title together with an 11-0, 11-3, 11-6 victory over No. 7 seeds Hurricane Tyra Black and Parris Todd to kick off Championship Sunday action at the Las Vegas Pickleball Cup.
It was a complete performance from the top seeds, but they were especially impressive with their aggressive roll dinks from the kitchen line. Those shots succeeded in keeping Black and Todd on defense and created attack opportunities on numerous occasions.
With the win, Waters and Parenteau improved to 108-1 as a team. Despite that massively impressive metric, Parenteau says it’s never an easy road to gold.
“Anna Leigh and I try to keep getting better because the competition keeps getting tougher and tougher every week,” she shared. “It’s a continuous process.”
Even though it ended in defeat, Black and Todd’s time in Las Vegas gives them a lot to be proud of; they made their first final as a partnership and now have a silver to go along with three bronze medals in 2024.
The bronze medal match will feature Jorja Johnson and Rachel Rohrabacher taking on Anna Bright and Tina Pisnik.
