Waters, Parenteau escape Johnson, Pisnik to make quarters
LAKEWAY, TX - Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau are still undefeated when playing together, but they endured one of their toughest battles yet in the quarterfinals against Jorja Johnson and Tina Pisnik.
In a back-and-forth match that was interrupted by a two-hour rain delay, Waters and Parenteau had to figure out a way to slow down the former No. 29 ranked women’s tennis player in the world in Pisnik.
“I’ve never seen people be able to reset the ball from where she was resetting it and hit perfect winners, so hats off to her,” Waters mentioned.
Nevertheless, the undefeated tandem jumped ahead in the middle of Game 3 and never surrendered the lead to close out the match.
“This match was crazy—windy, rainy, cold,” Waters said. “It was just everything.”
The work’s far from over for the top seeds, though. They’ll next take on Jackie Kawamoto and Lucy Kovalova in the semifinals.
