Waters, Parenteau stay unbeaten, take women’s doubles gold
DALLAS, TX - The women’s doubles final at the Hertz Gold Cup on Sunday featured No. 1 seeds Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau taking on No. 2 seeds Callie Jo Smith and Lucy Kovalova.
Aesthetically, it featured the latest installment of the color wars: the blue of Waters and Parenteau against the pink of Smith and Kovalova.
Blue ultimately won out in three games, 11-7, 11-7, 11-4.
Waters and Parenteau had to deal with some exquisite offensive lobs from Kovalova that changed the momentum and positioning during points, but they relied on Parenteau’s inside out forehand from the right side to stay in control of all three games.
This victory isn’t just another gold medal for Waters and Parenteau, however.
It’s their 50th win as a team, to go along with zero losses.
That’s right. Zero.
It’s testament to the duo’s dominance on the court, but Waters tries to keep the thoughts of achievements like that off the court so it won't affect her performance.
“I honestly didn’t know until now. I try not to think about the records and stuff,” she mentioned. “But it’s definitely nice after the tournament to be able to celebrate this. Fifty, that’s insane.”
