Sock 'down to come back' for final tennis tourney, teases partnership with Kyrgios
One of the stories of this year’s US Open has been Donald Young’s run with Taylor Townsend in mixed doubles. The former junior tennis star is now into the finals, where he and Townsend will face No. 3 seeds Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori.
That match—scheduled for Thursday afternoon at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center—presents a monumental opportunity for Young: a chance to earn his first Grand Slam title in the last event of his career, all on home soil.
Young has been spending most of 2024 on the pickleball court, competing on the PPA Tour with other tennis icons like Genie Bouchard, Sam Querrey, and Jack Sock.
Sock, a four-time Grand Slam doubles champion himself, has flirted with the idea of returning to the tennis court for a swan song of his own.

His potential partner? 2022 Australian Open men’s doubles champion Nick Kyrgios, who has made a splash in the commentary space for his work in Flushing Meadows.
There’s no confirmation that Sock and Kyrgios will actually take the court together anytime soon, but it would certainly be an exciting way for Sock to close out his illustrious career.
Until then, though, the 2016 Olympic gold medalist will keep his attention on pickleball and the upcoming CIBC Atlanta Slam, set to run Sept. 9-15.
He’ll compete in singles, men’s doubles with Collin Shick, and mixed doubles with Jackie Kawamoto.
